Limber up with these spring-time writing prompts

  1. Describe the sound of birdsong when you wake up in the morning. Or, if you're not a morning person, write a few sentences about evening birdsong. Try to capture all the different calls, tweets and chirrups as the birds start their day/get ready to roost.

  2. Write a paragraph from the POV of a bird sitting on a nest of eggs, waiting for them to hatch.

  1. Write a paragraph from the POV of a bumble bee who buzzes from flower to flower, gathering nectar and pollen.

  2. Write a scene in a garden centre, where three characters tussle over the last bag of compost. This is all about creating dialogue between three people. Make sure each voice is distinct.

  3. Paul's umbrella is broken. As he throws it angrily in the bin, his mood changes from frustrated to content as he lets the rain soak his face, hair and clothes. Write this scene, focusing on this mood change.
